He was also dropped out of BPL due to his elbow injury for which he has to undergo surgery to repair a ligament in his injured right elbow.

After the elbow surgery, Steve Smith will be in a brace for a period of six weeks. He then will undergo an extensive rehabilitation process. So Smith will not be able to play IPL for his team Rajasthan Royals . Also, he was absent during the previous IPL due to his ban.

Both the Australian Cricketers Steve Smith and David Warner were suspended from playing international cricket and domestic cricket by Cricket Australia for one year due to their involvement in the ball-tampering incident in the third test against South Africa.

The bans on both the players will end on March 29 which will make them eligible to play for the Australian team in the Cricket World Cup 2019. Both the players are the key players for the Australia National Cricket Team .

During their absence, Australia lost the test series and was able to draw the T20I series against India. Currently, India leveled the ODI series against Australia 1-1. The third and the final ODI match will be held in Melbourne on January 18.
